Help the Economy

It is a gift giving time of year here in the States... I am pretty motivated to buy things that are handmade or at least made by artists. These are the folks who are NOT getting bailouts from the U.S. government.

Last week I showed this from Doodlage... Today I found these cool paper cut calendars on her site. I am an admirer of the Tree of Life Motif... and so for the Secular Jew in your life who likes to use a January-December Calendar... this a way to sneak in a bit of Eitz Chaim...

Feel the need to grow... like a tree

A recent facbook discussion has lead me to try and go back to the roots of this blog where I combined the Parsha and art... but I want to delve in to the Haftorah portions, because I am not as familiar with that and want to learn.

Did you know that in this week's haftorah Solomon directs the building of the Temple? And did you know that the very famous words which we speak as we stand before the open ark come from this reading?

It is a tree of life for those who grasp it, and it's supporters are praiseworthy. Its ways are ways of pleasantness and all its paths are peace". Proverbs Chapter 3 (17-18)
These ark doors come from Congregation Etz Chaim in Fairport New York and were Al Ornstein.

Shabbat Shalom.

Giving Tree...

I love the symbol of Etz CHaim... Are you a knitter? How about creating this Tree of Life afghan for a wedding or bar/bat mitzvah gift for someone you love? Or maybe for your favorite blogger of Judaica!!!

Shof'tim:Deuteronomy 16:18 - 21:9

My family and I are are on our way back home. We spent a lovely several days with my family in NY... despite a nasty cold that bounced its way among us. I am currently writing you from Baltimore, MD. Last night we had a lovely evening with my husband's old roommate and his wife. I love having these attachments... continuing relationships like

THE HUMAN TREE
The tree's primary components are: the roots, which anchor it to the ground and supply it with water and other nutrients; the trunk, branches and leaves which comprise its body; and the fruit which contain the seeds by which the tree reproduces itself.

The spiritual life of man also includes roots, a body, and fruit. The roots represent faith, our source of nurture and perseverance. The trunk, branches and leaves are the body of our spiritual lives -- our intellectual, emotional and practical achievements. The fruit is our power of spiritual procreation -- the power to influence others, to plant a seed in a fellow human being and see it sprout, grow and bear fruit. Read more here.
