Thirty artists will present their Holocaust-Yellow-Badge-in-Art-Works on the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day, (Yom Hashoah), April 30th 2008, at Beit Igal Alon in Safed under the auspices of Safed Mayor Yishai Maimon.

Curator: Reli Wasser in participation with Ze’ev Barkan who runs the Star of David blog:

The exhibit will be open for three weeks.

Slide show of the works can be watched at picassaweb

The Yellow Badge was one of the few identifiers used by the Nazis during the Holocaust Period to mark Jews, and eventually to lead them to their death. It became the main symbol of the Holocaust, and of the humiliation of the Jewish People during World War 2. It evokes strong feelings (mostly too strong) of empathy with the fear and the suffering of the Holocaust victims. This art exhibit shows how artists processed these feelings, each from his private point of view.

Opening the event on the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day provides an added way to remember and to honor the 6 million Jews and 5 million others who died in Nazi Germany death camps.

Thank you for the link Ze’ev Barkan!
